Eastern Slavonija

Eastern Slavonia was directly attacked from Serbia. It was a major defense operation, crucial to the survival of Croatia. Željko Ražnjatović-Arkan appeared here for the first time as a paramilitary leader, robber and a killer of Serbian secret services, a war profiteer, and a war criminal, killed in Serbia in a criminal clash.

Other paramilitary units organized by the Serbian Radical Party, led by Vojislav Šešelj, a convicted war criminal, whose immediate associates nowadays hold the highest duties in Serbia, also played a significant role.

These units were administered by the JNA officers, and with the addition of local rebels led by convicted war criminal Goran Hadžić, carried out numerous war crimes and mass liquidations of civilians, wounded and prisoners.

It is a sparsely populated area with large fields, forests, a hilly region with numerous rivers.

The towns of Gospic and Otocac are local centers, with the enemy barracks, finding themselves in the way of the enemy attack.

Nothern Dalmatia

Knin is a strategically important city and a major transport hub for the whole of Dalmatia and Herzegovina.

As welt, it was the headquarters of the most and best equipped and largest corps of the Yugoslav Army in Croatia.

Here started the war travel of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic, which ended in Srebrenica where he committed genocide. This is the capital city of the rebel self-proclaimed state, with President Mile Martic, a convicted war criminal.

South Dalmatia

South Dalmatia has the tourist pearl of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik coast, as well as the port of Ploce, one of the most important ports on the Adriatic.

Dubrovnik was a collateral victim of the attack aimed at this port, as well as the ambition of the then leadership of the Republic of Montenegro, which had territorial pretensions on the Dubrovnik area.

The attack on Dubrovnik led to the destruction of the world’s cultural heritage, the massive looting and the organized devastation of entire settlements.

Maslenica & Medak Pocket

In these operations for the first time were implemented operational models of action of Croatian Armed Forces, which directed their further development and organization.

The reason for this military action was the unsustainability of the situation in which was Croatia, which could not provide a permanent and safe land route from Dalmatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina which werein active war.

Military Operation Medak Pocket had its cause in constant artillery strikes on civilian targets in Gospic, but also the need to shorten the demarcation line on Mount Velebit, where Special Police forces were depleted in difficult mountain conditions.
